Surgeries & transplants, Boats and Saris for the poor

During the past 20 years, the Amrita Institute of Medical Science in Kochi and the other healthcare institutions of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math have provided 100 percent free care to more than 30 lakh [three million] patients at a value of more than Rs. 400 crore [60 million US dollars].

Amrita Hospital presented another 375 beneficiaries with certificates for totally free surgeries: 200 totally free heart surgeries, 150 totally free brain surgeries and 25 totally free kidney transplants. Certificates for these surgeries were given by: S. Gurumoorthy, renowned economist and writer, Jagadambika Pal, MP, Uttara Pradesh, Richard Hay, MP Thalassery, Kerala, and Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP Karnataka

O. Raja Gopal, former Central Minister, gave certificates for 13 new boats to their owners whos boats were tragically destroyed.

Checks worth one lakhs each were given out to the wifes of fishermen who lost their husbands at sea.

On the occasion 400,000 saris to the poor women were also distributed. First 50 saris given out by Amma.

Hearts dancing, minds overwhelming… Europe Yatra begins

Amma is here at Granollers for the first tour stop in her Europe Yatra 2015. A few hours ago, several devotees had gathered at the airport and were looking for Amma ever since they knew her flight had landed. Suddenly among the crowd, a spotless white saree and a beamingly smiling face. Amma was in Europe and her tour had started. To many who had arrived, Amma gave Darshan as she walked out of arrivals. Even from within a car, Amma put her hand out to hold each and everyone and squeezed them gently like as if we were small children yearning to be in her grasp. Amma’s car left El Prat airport to Granollers, a town on the outskirts of Barcelona, a venue Amma had been visiting past few years.

It was a celebratory mood at the hall. Sleepy, yet conciously active, many were setting up the hall and stalls. Music team hanging the setups, stage folks re-carpeting the floors, stalls and table covers everywhere, inch by inch was being setup. A good number of volunteers were helping all the happenings. At 9pm, Amma came out unrested but fresh and led a beautiful meditation session. She asked for everyone to pray for world peace and for Nature’s harmony to be restored. She concluded by chanting “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” 9 times. As always and setting an example, Amma had folded hands as she led everyone on the universal prayer for peace.

Amma then called for food and distributed pasta and salad to one and all present. As she finished serving, she asked if everyone received and even asked extra plates to be circulated for seconds. She asked for hot chai to all volunteers and everyone present.

As everyone’s stomach filled, Amma started singing “Azhagu Azhagu”, a Tamil bhajan on the beauty of the Divine Mother. Afterwards Amma asked for a Baduga song to be played and She danced sitting down swaying her hands and body in a delicate yet graceful moves of the Badugas. As she started walking back to the room, Amma stopped on the way to dance, swaying blissfully in an enthralling disposition. Amma’s tour had just started with hearts dancing, minds overwhelmed in joy glorified by this touch of Life.

Fashion 4 Development awarded Amma with Medal of Honour for humanitarian work

28 September 2015, New York City

Ms. Evie Evangelou founder of Fashion 4 Development (F4D) awarded Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) the “Medal of Honour” for more than 25 years of humanitarian work in the fields of human rights, health and well-being, including food, access to water and power, housing, medical care, and the right to education and skill-training.

Fashion 4 Development (F4D), an awareness and activist organization, hosted their Annual First Ladies Luncheon on Monday, September 28, in New York City. Held in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly to encourage positive social change, the event recognized individuals for their humanitarian efforts.

The mission of F4D is to promote positive social change by implementing strategies for sustainable economic growth for communities worldwide. F4D identified the fashion industry as the “glue” to bring together VIPs and global influencers from every sector to collectively address a number of human rights issues worldwide.

Along with Amma, Naomi Campbell and other Fashion Industry Stalwarts also received various awards on this occasion.
