P.R. Nathan receives Amritakeerti Award

Renowned novelist, short story writer, playwright, scriptwriter, travelogue author, and orator P.R. Nathan has been selected for this year’s Amritakeerti Puraskaram, instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

Union Health Minister and BJP National President Shri J.P. Nadda presented the Amritakeerti Puraskaram to P.R. Nathan on the occasion of Amma’s 72nd birthday. The award—designed by artist Namboothiri—includes a citation and a cash prize of ₹1,23,456.

In his acceptance speech, Nathan dedicated the honour back to Amma, saying her compassion has deeply influenced his life and work.

Earlier speaking at the time of the announcement, Swami Turiyamritananda Puri, representing the award committee, said: “Through his philosophical writings, P.R. Nathan has elevated Malayalam literature to a higher plane. His works consistently highlight love and goodness, and it is this message that we honor with this award.”

P.R. Nathan has played a significant role in presenting the philosophical perspective of practical life through his lectures and writings. His prolific body of work comprises 21 novels, over 500 short stories, and more than 55 books across various genres, as well as numerous plays and screenplays. He is also a recipient of several other honors, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Overall Contributions.

The Amritakeerti Puraskaram is awarded annually to outstanding spiritual and literary figures who spread the values of Sanatana Dharma and enrich Indian culture through their works. Instituted in 2001, it has been bestowed upon eminent scholars, poets, saints, and writers whose lives reflect Amma’s vision of integrating wisdom with compassion.
