Kerala Government Honors Amma

26 Sep 2025, Amritapuri – Amritavarsham 72

At Amritavarsham 72, the Government of Kerala paid tribute to Amma on the silver jubilee of her historic Malayalam address at the UN General Assembly Hall.

Presenting the honor on behalf of the state, Saji Cherian, Minister for Culture & Youth Affairs, said, “Amma has shown the strength of the Malayalam language and culture to the entire world. Her use of Malayalam on the global stage was also a powerful message to those who neglect their mother tongue. This is not merely a felicitation—it is a cultural awakening.” He added that the Chief Minister conveyed his respects and greetings.

As Malayalam once again resonated from the stage, thousands of devotees responded with heartfelt applause, recalling the moment when Kerala’s voice first reached the UN.

In her response, Amma dedicated the honor to Malayalam itself: “This award belongs to Malayalam, which has given us identity and form. Parents must inspire their children to take pride in and preserve their mother tongue.”
