MOU signed: Ashram to build 160 houses in Sri Lanka

Mata Amritanandamayi Math signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Sri Lankan Government on 3rd May at the office of the Minister of Urban Development. According to the agreement, 60 houses will be built in the Sinhalese area of Kaluthurai (Colombo District) and 100 houses will be built in the Tamil area of Thirukkovil (Ampara District).

Mrs. Ferial Ashraff, the Honourable Minister for Housing, and Sri. Dinesh Vardhane, Honourable Minister of Urban Development, and Sri. Douglas Devananda, the Honourable Minister of Co-operative Development and of Hindu Affairs (among other ministries), were present, as were Brahmachari Vinayamrita Chaitanya and Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri. Brahmachari Vinayamrita and Mrs. Maheswari Velayudham, the political secretary to Minister Devananda, signed the MOU. The construction of more houses will be discussed in the near future.

The funding for the houses comes though Amma’s devotees via Healthcare Charities Inc., USA.
