The villages Amma adopted—Modsar, Mokhana and Dagara—were located far away from the highways, about 40 km from the Pakistan border. The Math not only rebuilt 1200 houses, but also schools, community halls, water tanks, medical clinics, and roads, as well as provided electricity and sewage systems.

The earthquake that struck Gujarat in 2001 claimed the lives of almost 20,000 people.
Amma’s response was immediate. AIMS Hospital dispatched a disaster-relief team of a dozen surgeons and two fully equipped ambulances that facilitated expert trauma care in the devastated areas. 7 February 2001, Amritapuri
At about 9 p.m. on the 7th of February 2001, special prayers were held in Amritapuri for the victims of the Gujarat earthquake and their families. In Amma’s divine presence, the ashram residents chanted the Holy Mother’s 108 names and the 8th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.

January 26th, 2001 India’s Republic Day
Amma was giving darshan in Kodungallur, Kerala when one of the worst earthquakes in Indian history hit Bhuj, Gujarat. It measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale.
