Onam has arrived at Amritapuri!
From today onwards, different mandala designs will decorate the area in front of Amma’s house, created with colourful flowers and leaves.
Amma’s children from the Ashram, University, and other groups will take turns creating these beautiful designs in batches. Each day brings a new display of creativity—and a friendly competition among the teams.
These traditional flower decorations are part of the preparations to welcome Vamana Murti, one of the avatars of Vishnu, during the Onam celebrations.

10 Balarama and Sri Krishna, are the 9th and 10th Avatars of Lord Vishnu. Their delightful childhood leelas are portrayed in colourful flowers.09. Amma performing arati to Ramlala during her visit to Ayodhya, the birthplace of Sri Rama, situated on the banks of the Sarayu River.08. Parasurama, the 6th avatar of Vishnu07. Mahabali surrendering to Lord Vishnu, who appeared as Vamana. Mahabali offered everything, including his ego. In return, Vishnu granted him the kingdom of the netherworld and promised to be his security guard.06. When Prahlada declared that his Ishta Devata, Lord Narayana, is present everywhere, his father, Hiranyakashipu, challenged him: “Is He present in this pillar?” Prahlada replied with unwavering faith, “Yes.” Enraged, Hiranyakashipu struck the pillar, and Bhagavan emerged as Narasimha, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Though the Divine is formless and all-pervading, He can manifest in any form, at any place, at any time in response to the love and faith of a devotee. Narasimha Avatar is an eternal testament to that devotion.05. This is Varaha, the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Bhagavan took the form of a divine boar to rescue Mother Earth from the demon Hiranyaksha, whose very name means “one whose eyes are fixed only on gold (wealth).” Varaha restored the Earth, reminding us that when greed overpowers righteousness, the Divine always intervenes to uphold Dharma.04. Bhagavan took the form of Kūrma, the divine tortoise, when Mount Mandara began sinking into the ocean during the churning. Supporting the mountain on His back, Bhagavan enabled the Devas and Asuras to continue churning the Milky Ocean, using Vasuki, the serpent, as the churning rope.03. Vishnu’s Matsya Avatar—the Fish incarnation—is regarded in the Bhagavatam as the first of His major incarnations. Interestingly, modern science also tells us that life on Earth began in water. This flower decoration depicts Matsya Avatar, symbolizing both the protection of life and the beginning of creation.02. Vasudeva is carrying the newborn Krishna in a basket across the Yamuna on a stormy, rain-soaked night, just moments after His birth. Serpent Anantha spreads its hood like a canopy over the infant Krishna, shielding Him from the pouring rain. 01.
