Barcelona welcomes Amma with joy, song, light and service

21 October, Granollers, Barcelona, Spain – Europe Yatra 2025

After the program in Winterthur, Amma and the group traveled to Barcelona by road. On the way, the group stopped at a gas station where Amma served evening chai and dinner. There were jokes, satsangs, and bhajans, filling the journey with joy.

Amma stayed at the Spanish ashram, a beautiful home built in 1856. The program was held in an indoor sports stadium nearby, welcoming thousands over three days.

Amma was welcomed to Barcelona by the Mayor of Granollers. Speaking on the occasion, Alba Barnusel said: “For Granollers, it is an honour to receive you with open arms. Thank you Amma for bringing some peace to our lives.”

Teresa Viejo, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—shared from the heart: “There isn’t a single word that defines what Amma does for humanity. If there is one gesture capable of humbling the ego in each of us, it is the embrace. That is what we are going to experience today: how we merge with one another through genuine compassion.”

Amma addressed the gathering in Malayalam, and it was translated into Spanish so everyone could receive the message.

Many were seen waiting to enter the hall as early as 5:30 in the morning, some with little babies, braving the cold. The doors opened at 9:00 am. Over three days, Amma met thousands of people. On the last day, the hall overflowed, and even the dining hall was full; security had to restrict entry.

On the 3rd evening, as Amma entered the stage, the crowd lifted their phone flashlights and waved in unison—celebrating the fourth day of Diwali—like a soft sea of light. It was a marvel to watch and feel. Then Amma led everyone in Atma Puja and prayers for world peace.

Over the three days Amma gave mantra to more than 1200 people.

Spanish devotees express joy openly. When Amma entered the hall, they clapped. They clapped after every bhajan. Amma was on stage from 11:00 am; at 8:00 pm she took a short washroom break—when she stood up to go, they clapped; when she returned a few minutes later, they clapped again. When Amma was leaving the hall after three days, they clapped once more—their applause was gratitude.

Each day, after long hours of darshan, Amma danced a few steps to the tune of “Ra Ra Ra Ri, Ra Ra Ri,” bringing smiles to tired faces.

The day after concluding the 3-day program, Amma met all the volunteers at the ashram, offering guidance and blessings, before leaving for Finland for the next program of Europe Yatra.
