Amritattva By Swami Turiyamritananda

27 September 2003

Amritattva was one of four books released by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math on the day of Amma’s 50th birthday. The book was written in Malayalam by Swami Turiyamritananda, who is Amma’s first disciple.

Amritattva

The book is a collection of spiritual writings that examine Amma’s teaching. As Swami Turiyamritananda explains in the book’s foreword, what everyone takes from Amma’s words is different because each person sees them in the light of their own personal past experiences. Often it is possible to find in Amma’s words the very thing we find in the Upanishads. But we do not need knowledge to become a fit receptacle to receive wisdom from Amma’s words. If we have devotion and surrender, the impurities of the heart will be removed and in that pure heart, we can worship Amma as the embodiment of knowledge.

Swamiji goes on to say that just because he has written a book about Amma’s teachings does not mean that he is claiming to have imbibed the totality of Amma’s words. The are infinitely deep.

All knowledge is within us, writes Swamiji. There is no knowledge that doesn’t exist within. It’s abode is within.
