Amma’s 73rd birthday will be observed as Vishwa Seva Dinam, a Day of Selfless Service, at Amritapuri on September 26 and 27. The celebrations will focus on extending Amma’s message of love and compassion through a range of humanitarian initiatives.
The main programmes will take place at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus in Amritapuri.
The public programme on September 26 at 5 p.m will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
This year’s Amritakeerti Award, will be presented to former Governor, senior advocate and author P. S. Sreedharan Pillai on this occasion.
September 27 will begin at 9 a.m. with Sri Guru Paduka Puja, followed by satsang with Amma, a prayer for world peace and bhajans.
The formal programme at 11 a.m. will be attended by Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest.

₹75 crore in humanitarian initiatives
As part of Vishwa Seva Dinam, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math will launch humanitarian projects valued at ₹75 crore.
These will include free organ-transplant surgeries through Amrita Hospital and financial assistance to self-help groups supported by the Math.
Financial assistance will also be announced for families who lost loved ones in the fireworks accident in Thrissur on April 21, as well as for the families of fishermen who died in boat accidents following rough seas at Neendakara in Kollam and Muthalapozhi in Thiruvananthapuram.
A flood-relief package for Assam will also be launched as part of the initiatives.
A mass wedding will be held following the main programme.
The observance of Vishwa Seva Dinam extends beyond Amritapuri. Amma’s birthday is being marked around the world through acts of service, including support for people in need, care for the environment, community service and prayers for world peace.
Amma has expressed her wish that her birthday be used not merely for celebration, but as an opportunity for her children to reach out to those who are suffering and to make their love and gratitude an expression of selfless service.
The two-day observance at Amritapuri will bring together spiritual practices, public programmes and humanitarian initiatives, turning Amma’s birthday into an occasion for service to the world.
