Amma’s vision is to alleviate suffering

9 April 2009 —Quatre Borne, Republic of Mauritius

Mauritius President Anerud Jugnauth came to Amma’s ashram in Quatre Borne to welcome Amma and seek her blessings for his country and family. This is the second time the president has meet Amma. The Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, M. Ganapati, as well as the mayor of Quatre Borne also came to welcome Amma and receive her blessings.

Delivering a short address, President Jugnauth said, “It has been indeed a great privilege for my wife and myself to be here this evening and to have had the darshan of Amma. I am sure that my wife’s and my life will be enhanced after this meeting. Her presence on the soil of Republic of Mauritius will naturally help us in following her teachings and in following her example. Amma’s vision is to do everything that is possible to alleviate this suffering.”

President Jugnauth then assisted Amma in distributing pensions to widows and physically and mentally challenged people as part of the Ashram’s Amrita Nidhi Program.

Amma also blessed several saplings, which will be planted by AYUDH-Mauritius as part of the Ashram’s environmental initiatives. Ghar Ghar Me Tulasi—a program dedicated to rekindling the Hindu tradition of nurturing and worshipping tulasi plants—was also launched.
