The Department of Nuclear Medicine at AIMS is equipped with
a modern, state-of-the-art, dual head Gamma Camera, and an
online computer system including the accessories and collimators
for imaging different radio isotopes with varying energy levels.
The Gamma Camera images the Gamma rays emitting from the patient
who has been injected with minute quantities of a radioactive
tracer bonded to various test specific pharmaceuticals.

This radio-tagging is done in the Nuclear Medicine Pharmacy, also
known as the HOT LAB, where the radio pharmaceuticals are prepared
and dispensed daily. This well-equipped and efficiently organised
Nuclear Medicine pharmacy is used for the safe storage and aseptic
preparation of the radio pharmaceuticals. Sensitive radiation survey
meters and a dose calibrator in the HOT LAB ensure the safe administration
of radio iodine to the patients being treated for hyperthyroidism.
