Amma's Approach is Total

Sunday, 29 February 2004

Senior statesman and politician Shri. Sarad Pawar came to pay his respects to Amma on the first night of Amma's 2004 programs in Pune. During his 39-year political career, Pawar has been president of the Maharashtra Congress Party, former the chief minister of Maharashtra, present member of the Indian Parliament.

What does Amma mean for India and for a politician?

Sarad Pawar welcoming Amma to Pune

"Amma is not just for politicians. We come here as human beings. India has a great background of spiritual strength that gives relief to human beings and to the nation. You see, I don't speak Her language, and She does not speak mine, but that does not matter. Her impact and charisma are so incredible. Language is no barrier for Amma's love. She has an enormous and continuous effort to serve humanity. And She does this not from an old but from a very modern concept that has great impact on the younger generation. She wants to help and strengthen.

"Two years ago together with Amma I had the opportunity to remove one slum and completely renovate it Ajantha Nagar (webpage). Amma took some financial responsibility in this and also did the state and local governments."

What is it that Amma brings that the state or national government cannot?

"We saw the suffering and so did Amma. And when you see it, why not do something about it. Amma's approach is total to remove the suffering of the people."

"The second side of Amma's mission is to comfort and uplift humanity by developing and upgrading their skills. For this, She has built many educational institutions. From lower education to the highest institutions. She educates the youth to become the best in their skills and profession but also teaches them to do something for the poor and the suffering."
