Kathakali performance on Amma’s teachings

14 Sep 2014 – Amritapuri

This afternoon, a special Kathakali performance titled “Amritopadesam” (Immortal teachings), was offered to Amma in Amritapuri’s main hall, as she was giving darshan.
The 3 and half hours performance depicted Amma’s teachings, with focus on her power and inspiration to bring a change in the lives of all those who approach her, even the doubters. The cast was led by Kalamandalam Ganesan, and included 20 performers: actors, singers and musicians.

The hall was full with devotees and ashramites who all fully enjoyed the talent of the performers and the high quality of the play.

Kathakali is Kerala’s world famous classical dance-drama, with attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion.
This was the first time that such a play was made about a living personality, as it is traditionally based on stories from the Puranams and Itihasas (Ramayana and Mahabharata).
