A visit to Watoto Boma

During his visit to Kenya, Br. Shubamrita visited Amrita Watoto Boma, care home for children near Athi River. After playing, singing and telling stories to Swami, all of the children got a chance to show off their skills in Math and English language and the students who ranked top of their class were rewarded by Shubamrita.

Since it’s inauguration during Amma’s visit in April 2011 {news} the Children’s Care Home has become a vibrant place for education and sustainable development. With the goal of providing nutritious, organic food to the children at the Home as well as the surrounding communities, members of the AYUDH youth group have created a permaculture vegetable garden that produces all the vegetables for the Home. A biogas system has been put into place to supply cooking gas for the kitchen and their new cow, Radha, gives nutritious milk to the children and provides most of the manure for the bio-gas system.

The children repeatedly expressed their gratitude to Amma for being taken care of in such a loving and caring environment. They handed over gifts to Br. Shubamrita to be given to Amma and asked him many questions – the most urgent one being when they could all fly to India and meet her there.
